How Fellows are elected


New Fellows are elected to the Academy through a rigorous peer nomination and assessment process. The nomination process is different depending on the category of Fellowship.

Fellows


  • Nomination

    Nominations for Fellowship are made through the Academy’s eleven Electoral Sections.

  • Assessment

    A citation is prepared for each candidate, and a team of independent assessors is selected from within Australia and overseas to provide comment on the case for election.

  • First stage voting

    Section members vote by secret ballot for Candidates nominated by their Section(s).

  • Second stage voting

    A final vote by the Fellowship takes place at the Annual General Meeting held each November.

  • Announcement

    The outcome of election is announced following the Annual General Meeting.

Honorary & Corresponding Fellows


  • Nomination

    Candidates for Honorary and Corresponding Fellowship are considered directly by Council. Through their Head of Section, Fellows can also suggest possible candidates for election as Honorary or Corresponding Fellow.

  • Assessment

    A citation is prepared for each candidate.

  • Voting

    Voting is undertaken by the Fellowship at the Annual General Meeting held each November.

  • Announcement

    The outcome of election is announced following the Annual General Meeting.
