Professor Povinelli is globally acclaimed as one of the most influential cultural thinkers of our times. Over 30 years of sustained ethnographic collaboration with Indigenous colleagues in North Australia, she has developed a critical theory of late liberalism. Informed by the traditions of anticolonial critique, pragmatism and immanent theory but grounded in struggles of settler colonial struggles, her oeuvre consists of five books, and numerous essays.
Her collaboration with the Karrabing Film Collective as director, writer and producer has resulted in six multi-awarding winning films. She has held numerous named invited professorships. Her most recent book, Geontologies, was the 2017 recipient of the Lionel Trilling Book Award.
