Brian Nelson is a specialist in French literature and cultural history of the 19th and 20th centuries. He is best known for his translations and critical studies of the novels of Émile Zola. Recent publications include The Cambridge Introduction to French Literature (2015) and Émile Zola: A Very Short Introduction (2020). Since 2020 he has been engaged, as co-editor and translator, on a new translation/edition of Proust’s A la recherche du temps perdu for Oxford World’s Classics. He was the editor of the Australian Journal of French Studies from 2002 to 2020.
