Alexander Cambitoglou is Emeritus Professor of Classical Archaeology at the University of Sydney and Director of the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens. He has held academic and other positions at the University of Mississippi from 1954-56, Bryn Mawr College, Pennsylvania from 1956-61, the University of Sydney 1961-89, the Nicholson Museum, Sydney 1963-present, and the Australian Archaeological Institute at Athens 1981-present. He is a member and has served on the Council of the Council of Lexicon Iconographicum Mythologiae Classicae and the International Scientific Committee for the Corpus Speculorum Etruscorum. He is a Fellow of the Athens Archaeological Society, the Society of Antiquaries, London, a Corresponding Member of the German Archaeological Institute and a Member of the Athens Academy. Professor Cambitoglou's research interests centre on Greek pottery and more particularly the pottery of the Greek colonies of South Italy. His fieldwork has taken him, as Director, to Zagora on the island of Andros 1967-75,and to Torone, Northern Greece 1975-present. He is the founder and Director of the Foundation for Classical Archaeology.
