  • Biography:
  • Professor Julianne Schultz AM FAHA is the founding editor and publisher of Griffith Review, the literary and public affairs quarterly established by Griffith University in 2003 as a platform for long-form essays addressing topical issues. She began her career as a reporter with the ABC and Australian Financial Review. As an academic and journalism educator she was the founding director of the Australian Centre for Independent Journalism at the University of Technology, Sydney. In 2019 Julianne was appointed Chair of The Conversation Media Group.

    Julianne was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2009 for her service to the community as a journalist, writer, editor and academic, for fostering debate on issues affecting society and for professional ethics and accountability.

    She is the author of Reviving the Fourth Estate (Cambridge, 1998) and Steel City Blues (Penguin, 1985) and has written librettos to the operas Black River (1989) and Going into Shadow (2001).
