  • Biography:
  • Gerry Docherty is Professor and Dean (Research) in the Arts, Education and Law Group at Griffith University. He is recognised internationally for his work in sociophonetics and is a pioneer of research in this growing area of sociolinguistics. For many years, he has championed the need to incorporate socio-phonetic indexicality and gradience into modern phonological theory and is one of the leading figures of the highly influential Laboratory Phonology initiative that aims to cross the divide between traditional phonological theory and linguistic phonetics. He has published widely in prestigious scholarly journals of the discipline and is in strong demand as an invited speaker at conferences and specialist meetings in Australia and abroad.
