James Harrison

Biography

James Harrison has been the Research Director of the Sydney College of Divinity since 2013. Before this he taught New Testament and Koine Greek at Wesley Institute, Drummoyne, for 15 years, being the Head of the Theology Department for 11 years. Prior to this appointment, he was the Director of the School of Christian Studies at Robert Menzies College, North Ryde.

His research interests include the historical Jesus, the apostle Paul, the Gospel of Luke, Second Temple Judaism, the Graeco-Roman world, and the epigraphy, papyrology, numismatics, and iconography of ancient cities. He is the author of four monographs on Paul, three with Mohr Siebeck Press, and one with Fortress Press. He has published many articles and chapters in international journals and books. He is the editor of New Documents Illustrating the History of Early Christianity (Eerdmans) and is the co-editor of The First Urban Churches (SBL Press). He is a member of the Society of New Testament Studies and is on the editorial board of SCD Press.
