Marion Maddox

Biography

Marion Maddox is the leading authority on the intersection of religion and politics in Australia. She has conducted extensive research into the inner workings of Australian federal politics and the place of religion in that context, as well as in Australian public life more generally.

She is the recipient of two ARC Discovery Grants, an ARC Future Fellowship, Directorship of the Centre for Social Inclusion at Macquarie University, and has received invitations to visiting positions both in Politics (University of Adelaide; ANU) and Religion (University of Newcastle; Observatoire du religieux, Science Po Aix; EHESS Paris).

Professor Maddox’s expertise has been called upon nationally with membership of such bodies as the ARC College of Experts (2014-present) and internationally as a member of the executive committee of the International Association for the History of Religions (2016-present). She has served in an executive capacity (including as President) of the Australian Association for the Study of Religion.

Currently Professor in the Department of Modern History, Politics and International Relations at Macquarie University she has taught Australian politics and religious studies in universities in Australia and New Zealand.
