Biography

Professor Boumelha was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand from 2009-14. Until 2008 Professor Boumelha was the Jury Professor of English Language and Literature at the University of Adelaide, as well as the inaugural Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Education until 2007. Her research centres on narrative theory; gender, class and nationality in fiction and other writing in Britain and Ireland, 1880-1920; feminist criticism; social discourses of medicine in the nineteenth century; the works of Thomas Hardy.
