Peter White

Biography

Peter White is one of Australia’s foremost prehistorians. In 1971 he took up a lectureship at the University of Sydney, which became his base for the next 32 years. He has held a Harkness Fellowship and been visiting lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Arizona, and Simon Fraser University. His PhD research at the Australian National University (ANU) established him as one of the pioneers of New Guinea archaeology and began his long association with that region, as both fieldworker and commentator. Peter was the editor of the University of Sydney’s journal Archaeology in Oceania.
