Biography

Educated at Cambridge and Durham UK, Professor Tarrant was employed in Greek (subsequently) Classics at the University of Sydney 1973-93, and was appointed Chair of Classics at Newcastle 1993-2011. He lives in active retirement in the UK, but retains academic, family and leisure interests in Australia. Professor Tarrant’s main interests are in Greek Philosophy, especially Platonism; also the interrelation of philosophy and literature in antiquity. He has been an executive member of the International Plato Society and of other bodies promoting ancient philosophy and classical studies.
