Frances Muecke

Biography

Frances Muecke, FAHA, is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney and a member of Roma nel Rinascimento. She holds degrees from the Universities of Melbourne and Oxford. Apart from her parents the most important figures in her intellectual development were Leslie Bodi, Margaret Hubbard, Eduard Fraenkel and Colin Macleod. Frances has been a visiting Fellow at Clare Hall, Cambridge (1988) and the Institute of Classical Studies, London (2003) and held a visiting teaching position at Brown University (1994). As a classicist she published mainly on ancient comedy and Roman satire (Horace: Satires Book 2, Aris and Phillips, 1993). Now her main interests are antiquarianism and the history of scholarship in Rome between 1450 and 1527. Her publications on humanist scholarship include Domizio Calderini, Commentary on Silius Italicus, co-edited with John Dunston (Geneva: Droz, 2011) and Biondo Flavio, Rome in Triumph: Volume 1, with M.
