Andy Kirkpatrick

Biography

Kirkpatrick is an internationally recognised authority on world Englishes, English as a lingua franca, and language education. He has made a significant contribution to the understanding of the complexities and dynamics of the English-speaking world and the rise of new Englishes, the global diffusion of English and developing appropriate strategies for the teaching of English in international, especially in Asian contexts. Kirkpatrick is Professor in the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences at Griffith University. He was previously Chair Professor of English as an International Language at the Hong Kong Institute of Education and Professor of Language Education at Curtin University. He has taught in tertiary institutions throughout East and Southeast Asia. He is currently an Honorary Research Professor in the School of Oriental and African Studies at London University and a Visiting Professor at the University of Bath.
He was President of the Applied Linguistics Association of Australia 2012-14.
