Annamarie Jagose

Biography

One of the world’s leading practitioners of feminist studies, gay/lesbian studies and queer theory, Jagose has written four landmark texts on issues of sexuality and desire. Her books are widely cited and considered benchmark works, not only in English-language countries but also in the many other territories whose languages they have been translated into. Her early work focused on lesbian literary representation and the development of queer studies as an interdisciplinary field.

More recently, her research concentrates on the emergence of modern sexuality in the West across the long twentieth-century. She is also an award-winning novelist with her last novel winning the Vance Palmer Prize for Fiction and being shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Literary Award. From 2003-11 she was co-editor of GLQ: A Journal of Lesbian and Gay Studies (Duke UP). She is active on a number of editorial and advisory boards in feminist and sexuality studies.

Having previously taught at the University of Melbourne and the University of Auckland, Jagose is currently Head of the School of Literature, Art and Media at the University of Sydney.
