Rosalind Halton

Biography

Rosalind Halton is a harpsichordist and researcher whose work in promoting the music of Sicilian baroque composer Alessandro Scarlatti through editions, research papers and performance is internationally known. She has also released award-winning discs of solo French harpsichord music (The French Harpsichord, ABC Classics, Soundscapes Award, 1997, Louis Couperin and Friends, 2005). She has performed in major Festivals with ensembles including Elysium, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Philharmonia and His Majesties Sagbuts and Cornetts.

Rosalind founded the ensemble chacona in 1997, with whom she has broadcast regularly on ABC Classic FM. With chacona and leading Australian singers, she recorded her major research project, Venere, Adone e Amore: Serenatas and Cantatas of Alessandro Scarlatti (ABC Classics, 2007, 3 CDs). Her editions include two volumes of Scarlatti’s vocal music for A-R Editions. She is currently Associate Professor at the University of Newcastle.
