Biography
Bridget Griffen-Foley is a Professor of Media at Macquarie University, where she was the inaugural Director of the Centre for Media History. Bridget was elected to the Australian Academy of the Humanities in 2011 and to Council in 2016. She is a member of the Academy’s Cultural & Communication Studies Section (serving as head of Section in 2020-23), and the History Section.
Bridget’s publications include The House of Packer (1999), Sir Frank Packer (2000, 2013), Party Games: Australian Politicians and the Media from War to Dismissal (2003), Changing Stations: The Story of Australian Commercial Radio (2009) and Australian Radio Listeners and Television Viewers: Historical Perspectives (2020). She served as historical consultant to Power Games: The Packer-Murdoch Story (2013) and edited the field-defining A Companion to the Australian Media (2014) and co-edited the 5th edition of The Media and Communications in Australia (2023).
Bridget chairs the NSW Working Party of the Australian Dictionary of Biography, and also serves on the editorial advisory boards of the ADB, Media History, the Historical Journal of Film, Radio and Television, Media International Australia, the Australian Journal of Politics and History, and the Palgrave Studies in the History of the Media series.
