Biography

Gregory Bailey was born in Melbourne in 1948 and studied at Monash, Lancaster and Melbourne Universities as well as a the cole des Haute tudes in Paris. He has taught at La Trobe University since 1978, mainly in Religious Studies and Asian Studies programs. In 1998 he was a Research Fellow at the University of TÜbingen and was a Visiting Professor of Religion at George Washington University, Washington DC in 2006. In addition he has made many field trips to India and presented papers at dozens of international conferences.

Most of his research is devoted to ancient Indian literature, religion and social history, but he has also published in the area of contemporary Australian culture.
