Chris Andrews

Biography

One of Australia’s leading scholars in French creative literature and Latin American fiction, Andrews’ training in science and in the humanities (English literature and Francophone and Hispanic studies) has led to international recognition of his ability to bridge scientific and humanist modes of thought. He is also an award-winning poet, a poetry expert and an internationally recognised translator, particularly for his translations into English of the work of award-winning writer Roberto Bolaño. Chris Andrews is a graduate of the University of Melbourne, where he taught in the French program from 1995 to 2008. He is currently an associate professor at Western Sydney University and a member of the Writing and Society Research Centre. Andrews has translated books of Latin American fiction into English, including Roberto Bolaño’s By Night in Chile (2003), Rodrigo Rey Rosa’s Severina (2014) and César Aira’s The Musical Brain and Other Stories (2015). He has also published two collections of poems: Cut Lunch (2002), and Lime Green Chair (2012). In 2014 Columbia University Press published his study Roberto Bolaño’s Fiction.
