Sue O'Connor

Biography

Sue O’Connor is Professor in Archaeology in the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, the Australian National University (ANU). Her research focuses on the evidence for migration and colonisation in the Indo-Pacific region as well as on theoretical issues surrounding human migration and settlement. She has undertaken numerous research projects in Australia, Indonesia and East Timor.Her books include 30,000 years of Aboriginal Occupation, Kimberley, Northwest Australia (1999) and East of Wallaces Line: Studies of Past and Present Maritime Cultures of the Indo-Pacific Region (2000); and The Archaeology of the Aru Islands, Eastern Indonesia co-edited with Matthew Spriggs and Peter Veth, (2005). Her published papers in the Journal of Archaeological Science, Antiquity and Archaeology in Oceania cover topics as diverse as earliest modern crossing into Wallacea, the dating of Southeast Asian rock art and contemporary use of islands by Indigenous Australians.
