Biography

Betty Meehan is an anthropologist known for her original contributions that cross the boundaries between anthropology and prehistory and illumine both. Her work on the subsistence regimes of an Aboriginal community in Arnhem Land has been internationally acclaimed. Dr Meehan has been Honorary Associate of the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at Harvard University (1995-96); President of the Australian Archaeological Association (1984); Director of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Environment Section of the Australian Heritage Commission (1991-95); and Head of the Aboriginal Section of the National Museum of Australia (1990-91).
