Biography

Leaving Honours, South Australian Public Examination, 1952, 2nd place on General Honours list (First in Modern History, Equal first in French). Graduated with 1st class Honours in French Language and Literature, University of Adelaide, 1956. Overseas Scholarship from the University of Adelaide, 1957-1960. Awarded Doctorat de l’Università de Paris, mention: Très Honorable, Sorbonne, 1960. Appointed Assistant Lecturer, Queen’s College, Dundee (campus of the University of Saint Andrews), 1960. Lecturer, University of Melbourne, 1961. Senior Lecturer, University of Adelaide, 1963. Retired in 1994. Visiting Research Fellow, University of Adelaide, 1995 to the present. Mà daille de reconnaissance du Conseil Gà nà ral de l’Allier, 1991. Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Acadà miques, 1993.
