Biography

Christine Dobbin is a scholar of Asian political, religious and economic history. She was a Research Fellow in Southeast Asian History at the Australian National University from 1968-73 and a Lecturer at Flinders University from 1973-75. She was a visiting Fellow at the ANU from 1996 until her retirement in 2011. Her publications include Islamic Revivalism in a Changing Peasant Economy: Asian Entrepreneurial Minorities (1996), Central Sumatra, 1784-1847 (1983), Religions of Indonesia (1979), Urban Leadership in Western India: Political and Communities in Bombay City, 1840-1885 (1972) and Basic documents in the Development of Modern India and Pakistan, 1835-1047 (1970).
