Biography

Jean-Paul Descoeudres is Honorary Professor at the Universities of Geneva and Sydney. Prior to this he taught in the Department of Archaeology at the University of Sydney (1973-96) before being appointed to the Chair of Classical Archaeology at the University of Geneva in 1997 which he occupied until his retirement in 2009. In Geneva he was in charge of the implementation of the Bologna Reform as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Arts (2000-05). He returned to Sydney in 2016 to pursue his activity as chief editor of ‘Mediterranean Archaeology’. His research interests include Greek colonisation, Greek (esp. Euboean) Archaic pottery, and Roman wall-painting.
