Cristina Rocha

Biography

Cristina Rocha is Professor of anthropology and the Director of the Religion and Society Research Cluster, Western Sydney University, Australia. She is internationally renowned for her work on the intersections of religion, globalisation, and migration with a focus on Buddhism, spiritual healing, and Pentecostalism. Her many books explore the infrastructures that move religion across borders, and how affective imaginaries of other places are inflected by global power asymmetries that shape mobility. She has been awarded an ARC Future Fellowship, an ARC Postdoctoral Fellowship (now DECRA), and several ARC Discovery grants. She has been a Fellow at the Paris Institute for Advanced Study, and President of the Australian Association for the Study of Religion. Prof Rocha has held Visiting Research positions at Utrecht University, Kings College, Queen Mary College, CUNY Graduate Centre, and the Max Planck Institute for Religious and Ethnic Diversity. She co-edits the Journal of Global Buddhism and the Religion in the Americas Brill series.
