Louise D'Arcens

Biography

Louise D’Arcens is Professor of English Literature at Macquarie University. She gained her BA (Hons I 1990) and PhD (1997) from the University of Sydney. An expert in medievalism and in late medieval literature, she has published three sole-authored books and five co-edited volumes in these areas, including The Cambridge Companion to Medievalism (2016), and has published widely on the modern reception of the Middle Ages. Her work has made important contributions to the development of critical frameworks in medievalism studies, and has broadened the field’s geographical and cultural reach.

She was the recipient of an ARC Future Fellowship (2013-2017) and a collaborative ARC Discovery grant (2008-2011). She is a current node director and executive committee member (2019-2022) and former Associate Investigator (2012-2017) of the ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions, and is an executive committee member (from 2019) of the Australia and New Zealand Association for Medieval and Early Modern Studies. At Macquarie University she is the Research Director of the Department of Communications, Media, Creative Arts, Languages and Literature.
