Stephen Harrison

Biography

Stephen Harrison is Senior Research Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and Professor of Latin Literature in the University of Oxford, where he was educated (BA 1982, MA 1985, DPhil 1987, Fellow of Corpus since 1987). He has held visiting positions at Paris, Rome, Siena, Turin, Bergen, Copenhagen, Trondheim, Princeton IAS, Stanford, Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem, Dunedin and Christchurch, and does so currently at Stellenbosch. He is a menber of the Academia Europaea, the Accademia Vergiliana di Mantova, the Norwegian Academy of Sciences, and the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was awarded honorary doctorates by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2019 and by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in 2022. He is the author, co-author, editor or co-editor of some fifty volumes, and author of more than two hundred articles and chapters, on Latin literature and its reception.
