Biography

Originally from Newcastle, NSW, McKenzie Wark is currently professor of culture and media at The New School, in New York City. Among her best known books are A Hacker Manifesto (Harvard 2004), Gamer Theory (Harvard 2007), The Beach Beneath the Street (Verso 2011) and Molecular Red (Verso 2015). Recent work includes her book Raving (Duke 2023) and Philosophy for Spiders: on the low theory of Kathy Acker (Duke 2020). Her correspondence with Kathy Acker was published as I’m Very Into You (Semiotexte 2019). Her books have been translated into many languages. She is well known for her contributions to media theory, critical theory, cultural studies, the history of the avant-gardes, transgender studies and the aesthetics of digital media. She was awarded the Thoma Prize for writing on digital art in 2019.
