Wendy Rogers

Biography

Wendy Rogers is an internationally renowned feminist bioethicist. She is a Distinguished Professor at Macquarie University, Sydney where she holds a joint appointment between the Philosophy Department and the School of Medicine. Her key theoretical contributions include ethical analyses of evidence-based medicine, vulnerability, and overdiagnosis. Her research has informed national and international policy and practice regarding organ donation and surgical innovation. Wendy’s research has been supported by nine Australia Research Council grants and two National Health and Medical Research Council grants.

Wendy has made a strong contribution to service including one term as Co-coordinator of the International Network on Feminist Approaches to Bioethics, two terms on the Australian Health Ethics Committee of the NHMRC, and Co-chair of the NSW Ministry of Heath’s Clinical Ethics Advisory Panel from 2010-2019. The impact of her work has been widely recognised, including by the NHMRC (with its 2019 biennial Ethics Award), by Nature who listed her as one of ‘ten people who mattered in science’ in 2019 and by the International Association of Bioethics with its 2022 award for bioethics service in the face of challenges.
