Trevor Evans

Biography

Trevor Evans is an Associate Professor in the Department of History and Archaeology at Macquarie University. He is a linguist, focusing on the ancient Greek and Latin languages and the people who spoke and wrote them, with a special interest in the post-classical history of Greek. His current research centres on the language and lexicography of the Septuagint and the Zenon Archive.

Trevor is well-known as the author of Verbal Syntax in the Greek Pentateuch (OUP, 2001) and co-editor (with Dirk Obbink) of The Language of the Papyri (OUP, 2010). He has been based at Macquarie since 2007 after a period working at the University of Oxford as Assistant Editor of the Dictionary of Medieval Latin from British Sources (20047) and William Golding Senior Fellow at Brasenose College (20057). He was appointed Polonsky Visiting Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies in 2018.
