Timothy Bayne

Biography

Timothy Bayne is a philosopher of mind and cognitive science, focusing mainly on issues relating to the scientific study of consciousness. He completed an undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of Otago (New Zealand), and his Ph.D in Philosophy at the University of Arizona (2002). He is currently Professor of Philosophy at Monash University, having previously held posts at Macquarie University, the University of Western Ontario, the University of Manchester and the University of Oxford. He is the author of Philosophy of Mind: An Introduction (Routledge, 2022), Philosophy of Religion: A Very Short Introduction (OUP, 2018); Thought: A Very Short Introduction (OUP, 2013) and The Unity of Consciousness (OUP, 2010). He is an editor of Cognitive Phenomenology (OUP, 2011), Delusion and Self-Deception (Routledge, 2008) and The Oxford Companion to Consciousness (OUP, 2009). He is a Senior Fellow in the Brain, Mind and Consciousness program of the Canadian Institute of Advanced Research (CIFAR).
