Biography

The leading contemporary historian of Native American life and times, Professor Philip J. Deloria through numerous award-winning books has transformed our understanding of Indigenous survival, creativity, social action, and cultural achievement in North America. Of Dakota descent, Deloria is Professor of History at Harvard University and a Trustee of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian. A past President of the American Studies Association, and Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, he maintains active research collaborations with Australian scholars, supporting comparative and connected projects in Indigenous history.
