Biography

Chris L. de Wet (b. 1982) is Associate Professor of New Testament and Early Christian Studies, in the Department of Biblical and Ancient Studies, at the University of South Africa (UNISA), Pretoria. He is also an Honorary Research Fellow with the Australian Luther College, University of Divinity, Adelaide. He is the author of numerous articles and books, including Preaching Bondage: John Chrysostom and the Discourse of Slavery in Early Christianity (California, 2015), The Unbound God: Slavery and the Formation of Early Christian Thought (Routledge, 2018), and Revisioning John Chrysostom: New Approaches, New Perspectives (Brill, 2019, co-edited with Wendy Mayer, FAHA). He is also Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Early Christian History and Neotestamentica. His research interests include: John Chrysostom, early Christian studies, reception of the Bible, ancient slavery, medicine, health and disability in antiquity, late ancient studies, ancient Greek and Syriac studies, Patristics. He currently lives with his wife and three children in Pretoria, South Africa.
