Biography

Stan Grant Senior is a Wiradjuri elder who has made an outstanding contribution to the humanities in Australian cultural life. His commitment to language reclamation has deep ramifications for other Indigenous communities in Australia and internationally, regarding the role indigenous languages in sustaining the life and culture of their communities. From his childhood experiences seeing his language banned from public use, he has now reclaimed the language, by such channels as leading the teaching of Wiradjuri at Charles Sturt University, and his compilation (with John Rudder) of the 8000-word Wiradjuri dictionary, the most comprehensive dictionary of an Indigenous language of Southeastern Australia.

Acknowledgement of Country
