Nicolas Rasmussen

Biography

Nicolas Rasmussen is Professor in History and in Environmental Humanities at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. He is known for his work in history of molecular biology, history of pharmaceuticals, and the history and sociology of collaborations between academic medical scientists and industry. He is the author of Picture Control: The Electron Microscope and the Transformation of Biology in America, 1940-1960 (Stanford University Press, 1997); On Speed: The Many Lives of Amphetamine (New York University Press, 2008); Gene Jockeys: Life Science and the Rise of Biotech Enterprise (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2014), and Fat in the Fifties: The First Obesity Crisis and the Unmaking of Public Health in Postwar America; (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2019).
