Christian Barry

Biography

Christian Barry is Professor of Philosophy in the School of Philosophy at the ANU, where he has taught for 12 years. His research focuses on ethical theory, philosophy of action, and international justice. Through collaborations with economists and political scientists, he has addressed topics including global economic governance, trade and labour justice, poverty, development and international debt, the allocation of costs in addressing climate change, and ethical consumerism. He was the founding Director of the Centre for Moral, Social and Political Theory at the ANU, and is a co-editor of the Journal of Political Philosophy.Christian was educated at Columbia University in New York, receiving his PhD in philosophy in 2005. Prior to joining the ANU, he was a senior research fellow at the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs, a consultant to the Human Development Report Office at the United Nations Development Program, and a Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at University College Dublin. Christian lived in Brazil for several years and is fluent in Portuguese.
