Biography

Tim Lindsey is Malcolm Smith Chair of Asian Law and Redmond Barry Distinguished Professor at the University of Melbourne and is the Director of the Centre for Indonesian Law, Islam and Society at the Melbourne Law School. He is one of Australia’s leading experts on Indonesian law, and has advised governments, business, international organisations, courts and legal practitioners in Indonesia and Australia. He has produced foundational interdisciplinary publications that challenge or expand existing knowledge, including, among many others, Indonesia: Law and Society, Chinese Indonesians, The Constitution of Indonesia and Indonesian Law. His work has stimulated new research on Indonesia by a cohort of younger scholars that has made Australia a global hub for English language scholarship on law and society in Indonesia.
