Independent expert advice
We provide independent expert advice to government and policy makers on issues of national importance. We promote the social, cultural, environmental and economic significance of humanities scholarship and its role in shaping effective public policy.
Our projects focus on the health and vitality of the humanities in Australia and the region. We also work closely with colleagues in the three other Learned Academies on multidisciplinary research projects.
We conduct research to support the development of the humanities in Australia. In 2020 we will publish the outcomes of a three-year Australian Research Council-funded study on the humanities in the Asia region and the future humanities workforce.
Some reports of note include Mapping the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences in Australia (2014), The Power of the Humanities (2015), and Measuring the Value of International Research Collaboration (2015).
