Bilateral Exchange Programme

The Academy currently has two bilateral exchange programmes.

Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei

In 2011, the Australian Academy of the Humanities and the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei signed a new agreement to foster research collaboration between humanities scholars from both countries. The successful recipient will be selected from each country on alternating years, with Australia selecting the first exchange scholar in 2012.

Applications for the International Exchange Programme between the Australian Academy of the Humanities and the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei are now closed. The programme will reopen in 2013.

Applicants will be encouraged to submit a proposal of a visit to Italy in order to complete a project comprising one or several of various activities, such as research, visits to cultural institutions, lessons, master classes, seminars, participation in professional meetings and scholarly conferences. Minimum stay is one month, and the project must be completed during the year of award.

The Australian Academy of the Humanities will provide up to $3,000 towards an economy class airfare to Italy and the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei will disburse an all-inclusive allowance of €1,500 for the month of the visit. Please read the Rules of Award carefully before submitting your application.

The Swedish Exchange Programme

The Exchange Agreement between the Australian Academy of the Humanities and the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities enables an Australian scholar to conduct research in Sweden for a period of up to one month. The Award is open to Australian scholars working in the humanities. The Australian scholar must cover the cost of their travel to Europe but the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities will be responsible for the cost of accommodation and a per diem during the scholar's visit, for a maximum of one month, up to the sum of 40,000 SEK. The reciprocal arrangement covers the costs of one Swedish scholar's visit to Australia per year.
