Gift of the Gab: Languages and Australia

The Academy's 2006 Symposium was broadly divided into four key themes: Australian languages and issues of contemporary space and expression for Indigenous experience in our society; Translation and Interpreting, understood in a broad and expansive sense; English in the World and the World in English; and Multilingualism in a Stressed World.

Speakers included Waymamba Gaykamangu, John Greatorex, Anthony Pym, Joe Gumbula, Aaron Corn, Alan Dench FAHA, Haami Piripi, Uldis Ozolins, Mary Louise Pratt and Michael Clyne FAHA.

The Symposium included a public forum with Mary Kostakidis, Joseph Lo Bianco FAHA, Maria Vamvakinou MP and Graeme Turner FAHA.
